Voting By Mail

VOTE BY MAIL:

Every Californian who is registered to vote will get a Mail-In Ballot. LA County begins mailing ballots to registered voters no later than 29 days prior to Election Day.

2 CRITICALLY IMPORTANT THINGS WITH
MAIL IN BALLOTS:

(1) USE THE ENVELOPE THAT CAME WITH YOUR BALLOT.
(2) BE SURE TO SIGN AND DATE THE ENVELOPE! A MAIL-IN BALLOT MUST BE SIGNED IN ORDER TO BE COUNTED.

YOU CAN VOTE BY MAIL AS SOON AS YOU RECEIVE YOUR BALLOT.

ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED AND SIGNED YOUR MAIL-IN BALLOT, YOU CAN FILE IT UNTIL MAR. 5, 2024:

(1) MAILING IT at any US POST OFFICE IN THE PRE-PAID ENVELOPE THAT COMES WITH YOUR BALLOT (Your ballot must be postmarked by March 5, so it’s advised that you mail your ballot in as early as possible.),

(2) DROPPING IT OFF AT A BALLOT DROP BOX LOCATION (UNTIL 8:00 PM ON MARCH 5, 2024) OR

(3) DROPPING IT OFF AT A VOTE CENTER (DURING VOTING CENTER OPEN HOURS).

How to Track Your Ballot:
Vote By Mail Status Tool or
Great New “Where’s My Ballot” App

Tracking your vote-by-mail ballot—when it is mailed, received, and counted—has never been easier.  You Can Simply Use the Vote-By-Mail Status Tool (Click Here) to see when your mail-in ballot was mailed, received and counted.

California is now also offering Where’s My Ballot?—a new way for voters to track and receive notifications on the status of their vote-by-mail ballot. Powered by BallotTrax, Where’s My Ballot?  lets you know where your ballot is, and its status, every step of the way.  Click one of the links above or sign-up at WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov to receive automatic email, SMS (text), or voice call notifications about your ballot.

If You Change Your Mind and Want to Vote in Person

If you get a Mail-In Ballot, but change your mind and want to vote in person,  simply go to any Vote Center and vote. You no longer have to surrender your Mail-In ballot to vote in person.  Voting in person will automatically invalidate the Mail-In Ballot that you received in the mail.
