EVENT DETAILS

The Malibu Library Speaker Series presents Dr. Stephen Davis in cooperation with the City of Malibu and Pepperdine University. Dr. Davis is a plant ecologist at Pepperdine University who has studied the impact of wildfires in and around Malibu. This event is part of Pepperdine’s annual Climate Calling Conference and will take place in Elkins Auditorium at Pepperdine University. RSVPs are required.

Dr. Davis has been the principle investigator on more than 15 government grants, primarily from the National Science Foundation. Much of his personal research centers on plant physiological ecology, including adaptations of chaparral vegetation to wildfire, drought, and freezing. He has published in such journals as Nature, Ecology, and The American Journal of Botany.

The recipient of numerous teaching awards, Dr. Davis’s distinctive approach has been to facilitate student scholarship through the completion of research projects, the writing of honors theses, presentation by students of their research findings at regional and national scientific conferences, and finally through student publication of their work in refereed, scientific journals

Dr. Davis earned his Ph.D. in 1974 from Texas A&M University, after which he joined the faculty at Pepperdine University in Malibu. He has been a visiting scholar at Stanford University, UCLA, University of Utah, and Baylor University.
