In the aftermath of each fire, as people rebuild their lives and their homes, they also seek answers and information about resiliency. To empower our friends and neighbors, TreePeople is holding two “Building Fire Resilient Homes and Communities: Innovations and Lessons from Australia” symposiums. Open to the public, each event will inform and educate those living in or near high-fire risk areas on how to modify or rebuild their homes with the most innovative Best Management Practices aimed at increasing fire resilience.

The symposiums will feature key lessons and successes achieved in Australia in response to fires. Given that Australia has suffered many of the same climate change-induced impacts as California, TreePeople has invited a leader in Australian Emergency Management to share constructive lessons learned from their devastating “Black Saturday Bushfires” of 2009. The expert will present practical and applicable modifications in building design, on-site water capture, vegetation and fuel management, and building resilient communities to increase fire safety and resiliency. Additionally, guests will be able to hear from a panel of experts discussing the aforementioned topics as well as participate in an interactive Q&A session.
