Elections for Malibu's Delegates to the California Democratic Party @ Santa Monica College, Humanities & Social Sciences Bldg.
California Democratic Party Delegate Elections
“Democracy Is a Participation Sport”
This Sunday, the people who will represent Malibu in the California State Democratic Party (“CADEM”) for the next 2 years will be elected. To vote, you need to swing by Santa Monica College this Sunday, between 10am – 1pm, and cast your vote in person. You need not stay for the entire meeting. You just need to stop by and vote. Malibu is part of the 50th Assembly District. Delegates vote on behalf of their district at CADEM Regional Meetings, and the annual CADEM Convention. Those who are also elected to the Executive Board are responsible for voting and representing their community at the semi-annual E-Board meetings.
How to Vote
  • To vote, you must show up in person.
  • To be eligible to vote, you must be a registered Democrat living in the 50th district (which includes Malibu).
  • On-site voter registration is available for those not registered as Democrats.
  • You get up to 14 votes for delegates: 7 for “self-identified females”, and 7 for “other than self-identified females”. Delegates declare what seat they are running for when they file their candidacy, and that will be clearly indicated on your ballot. If you vote for less than 14 people, your vote will still be counted. One of your votes must also be someone running for Executive Board Representative. Executive Board candidates will be clearly identified on the ballot. Volunteers on-site will be able to answer any questions you have.
When & Where to Vote
Date:  Sunday, January 27, 2019
Doors Open:  9:00 AM
Candidate Speeches Begin:  9:30 AM
Registration & Voting:  10 AM – 1:00 PM

Who’s Running
There are 38 candidates running for 14 Delegate seats for the 50th District. Bios for each candidate for the 50th District can be found at:
and then selecting the 50th District.
Delegate candidates often run in “slates”, or groups of candidates that campaign together. However, when you cast your vote, you actually vote for individual candidates. You can choose to vote for everyone on a slate, or pick your candidates individually. About 10 of the 38 50th District Candidates are not running with a slate. (link above).
This year, 2 slates are running: The Progressive Slate, and the Grass Roots Slate. For more information on each slate, and the candidates running on each slate, visit:
We encourage you to (1) check out the candidate bios on the CADEM and Slate links above, and (2) make the time and effort to swing by Santa Monica College on Sunday morning, and vote.
If you want more information on the election and/or candidates, please do not hesitate to call Jane Albrecht, 310-457-4592, or Ted Vaill, 310-456-3504.
For more information on the Assembly District Election Meeting, visit www.Cadem.org/our-party/adem
Because the Woolsey Fire and its aftermath coincided with the time for candidates to submit their applications, no Malibu residents are running for delegates in this election.   However, it is important for you to vote for candidates whom you think will represent Malibu’s interests within the Party.   The Malibu Democratic Club is also working with our elected representatives to ensure that Malibu residents are considered for appointed delegate slots within the state Democratic Party.

“Spring Awakening“, the winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, is an angsty rock musical adaptation told by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater based on the seminal play by Frank Wedekind. Set in late 19th century Germany, the story is about the trials and tribulations of growing up. It explores the journey from adolescence to adulthood with a poignancy and passion that is illuminating and unforgettable. This landmark musical is an electrifying fusion of morality, sexuality and rock and roll that has exhilarated audiences across the nation like no other musical in years.

New FEMA & SBA Deadlines – Feb. 15 – Register ASAP!
Feb 15 all-day
New FEMA & SBA Deadlines - Feb. 15 - Register ASAP!
FEMA and SBA have extended their deadlines to register for these programs until February 15.

You have to register to be considered for eligibility for FEMA and SBA Programs, including Cal OAS Debris and Lot Clearance.

FEMA advises people to register if your home was destroyed, or in any way damaged (including smoke and ash damage), to be sure you are eligible for help if it turns out you need it.   Better to register and not need it, than need it and not be registered.  To be safe, register!

You can register for FEMA on line, at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.  If you have any questions or need assistance, call Malibu City Hall for more info, 310-456-2489.
