Robert Bernard Reich ( born June 24, 1946) is an American economist, professor, author, and political commentator. He served in the administrations of Presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton. He was Secretary of Labor in the Clinton Administration from 1993 to 1997. He was a member of President Barack Obama’s economic transition advisory board.
Reich has been the Chancellor’s Professor of Public Policy at the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley since January 2006. He was formerly a professor at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and professor of social and economic policy at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management of Brandeis University. He has also been a contributing editor of The New Republic, The American Prospect (also chairman and founding editor), Harvard Business Review, The Atlantic, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal.

Please join us for a Community Gathering to Mark the Anniversary of the Woolsey Fire and honor Malibu’s Recovery and Resilience this Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Zuma Beach Lot 8, Malibu (Between Morning View Dr. and Guernsey Ave.)
The event will feature a poetry reading by Malibu Poet Laureate Ellen Reich, musical performances by Malibu’s Brandon Jenner and the Malibu High School Choir, personal testimonials from community members, special giveaways for Malibu residents and delicious food and refreshments generously provided by Bob Morris’s Paradise Cove Beach Café. All are welcome to attend, no RSVPs are needed. There will be an art activity for kids, making healing cards for those who lost their homes in the fire, trees to plant at home, a home library restoration project with the Malibu Library, and more. We all know how critically important it is this year to take back the White House, the US Senate and keep control of the US House of Representatives. To do this, we all need to do our utmost. That means giving time to help get Dems elected, and donating what we can to magnify our individual efforts.
Grassroots Democrats HQ is a non-profit organization formed to (1) Defend Democrats’ 2018 House gains, (2) Flip the Senate, (3) Take Back the White House in 2020, and (4) Turn Key State Legislatures blue. It supports grassroots efforts to elect Democratic candidates in California and throughout the United States. In state elections this past week, Grassroots Dems volunteers initiated 20,000 calls and 13,000 letters in our successful effort to take back control of the Virginia State Senate and House of Delegates.
The Malibu Democratic Club is an affiliate of the Grassroots Democrats HQ and the Westside Democratic HQ. The efforts of these organization are vitally important for winning back the White House and US Senate, keeping control of the US House of Representatives in 2020 – now less than a year away. This fundraiser will help fund Grassroots Dems’ work through Election Day 2020 and allow them to open a brick and mortar HQ this fall.

Two of Trump’s cronies are jumping into the election to take back the Congressional seat we fought so long and hard for: Steve Knight, who refused to meet with constituents and rubber-stamped Trump’s agenda, and George Papadopoulos, the Trump aide who helped set in motion the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and later served time for making false statements to the FBI. There will be both a special election and the regular election in this seat – lots of work for us to do!

Assemblywoman Christy Smith has 63% of the state delegates already pledged to support her (60% is the threshold for State Party endorsement). Christy flipped the 38th Assembly District from red to blue in 2018 with our help and is poised to hold Katie’s seat.
