Critics rave: James and the Giant Peach is a “masterpeach!” When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach… and launches a journey of enormous proportions. Suddenly, James finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach, among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities, but after it falls from the tree and rolls into the ocean, the group faces hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements. A magical, musical production for the whole family to enjoy!

Writers Bloc Presents Stacey Abrams @ Wilshire Ebell Theater
Mar 24 @ 4:00 pm

UPDATE:  TICKETS NOW SOLD OUT.

ATTENDANCE ONLY IN THE EVENT OF NO SHOWS AT THE DOOR.

Stacey Abrams narrowly lost Georgia’s gubernatorial race in November, in a race against a GOP opponent who was Georgia’s Secretary of State who engaged in outrageous voter suppression tactics.  Before Election Day, his office put 53,000 voter registrations on hold, almost 70 percent of which were submitted by black voters.  That is still being battled out in the courts.

Abrams, a superstar in Democratic Georgia politics, is now one of the most influential Democrats in the South.  While she lost the recent election, her political career is far from over.

Abrams is a  politician, lawyer and novelist who served as Minority Leader of the Georgia House of Representatives from 2011 to 2017.[1] A member of the Democratic Party,  Abrams was the first black female major-party gubernatorial nominee in the history of the United States.[2]

In 1995, Abrams earned her Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (Political Science, Economics and Sociology) from Spelman College, magna cum laude.  As a Harry S. Truman Scholar, Abrams studied public policy at the University of Texas at Austin‘s LBJ School of Public Affairs and earned a Master of Public Affairsdegree in 1998. In 1999, she earned a law degree from Yale Law School.[1

In her new book, Minority Leader, Stacey Abrams sets out to prove that if you’re determined to make a difference, race, age and gender wont hinder your efforts. Stacey Abrams showed the country that being an outlier or an outsider was not a deterrence in her many successes. Rather, it is her sheer force of will and confidence in her message that beats the most daunting odds. This is what she showed in her gubernatorial race, and she never wavered from her demand that our elections be fair and just.

This event is likely to sell out, and your tickets will be mailed to you in advance, so you should sign up as soon as you can.   If you do not receive your ticket(s) in the mail, please contact Brown Paper Tickets at support@brownpapertickets.com.

Writers Bloc and the Beverly Hills Bar Association* present Preet Bharara, former US Attorney for the Southern District of New York

How do we achieve truth and justice in the courts and in our daily lives? How can we exercise our better and best judgment?

Shortly after his inauguration in 2017, President Trump fired Preet Bharara, former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, after Bharara refused former Attorney Jeff Sessions’ request that he and 45 other US Attorneys resign. Bharara was widely known as one of the most aggressive prosecutors in the country, going after public corruption, terrorism, drug lords, financial industry crimes, organized crime and more. He was also party-blind in his prosecutions: once Chief Legal Counsel to Senator Chuck Schumer, Bharara played no political favorites; he dogged Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office and Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office for financial improprieties. Bharara’s new book, Doing Justice, examines our legal system through case histories and personal stories, how and why it really works, and asks critical ethical questions in prosecuting crimes and in dealing with daily life. Preet Bharara’s podcast, Stay Tuned with Preet, is hugely popular, attracting hundreds of thousands of listeners per episode.

Moderator to be announced shortly.
