March for Our Lives LA @ Pershing Square
Mar 24 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

The LA March for our Lives against gun violence is one of 832 “March for Our Lives” events taking place on Sat., Mar. 24, in Washington DC and around the world.   The LA March for Our Lives Website indicates that the rally starts at 9am, at the intersection of 6th & Spring Street (215 W. 6th St or 603 S. Spring St.).  The march will start right after the rally.   The LA County Democratic Party  (LACDP) is meeting up for the march at Pershing Square (532 S. Olive St.) at 9 am, or at 501 S. Broadway, across from the Pershing Square Metro Station.  Because a large crowd anticipated, we recommend meeting at Pershing Square and walking with the LACDP.    LACDP asks, if you want to march with them, to rsvp at rsvp@LACDP.org.   The rally and march begin at 9 am, so we recommend getting to your destination no later than 8:45 am.  The march concludes at City Hall, between 1st and Temple Streets.

What time should I get there?

Setup will start around 8 am, so plan to arrive between 8:45 am and 9 am. The rally will begin at 9 am and the march will lead off a little while after.

How can I get there and back?

For those who don’t want to drive, you can catch the metro from Santa Monica to near Pershing Square.  We recommend using Google maps to get directions.  Google maps has not only driving directions, but public transportation directions as well.

The Palisades Democratic Club provides the following information for those taking the metro back to Santa Monica from Downtown:

The Civic Center/Grand Park Metro Station is located near City Hall where the March concludes on Hill Street between 1st and Temple Streets. To get to Santa Monica from this station, take the Red/Purple line toward North Hollywood and exit 7th St. Station. Go upstairs to Platform 2 and take the Expo line to Santa Monica. A one-way fare if you have a TAP card is $1.75. You can purchase a TAP card for $1 at station.

If I drive, where can I park my vehicle?

Parking in Downtown Los Angeles can be very difficult. Please plan on taking ride share or the Metro Line. But if you must drive, you can use the ParkParkGoose app to find free or cheap parking nearby.

What should I bring to the march?

Protest signs, banners, costumes, puppets, flags, decorated umbrellas, anything that helps communicate your message. Hold it high for all to see. The march and rally will happen rain or shine, so an umbrella might be useful too.

Optional – Wear Orange
Orange is the color that Hadiya Pendleton’s friends wore in her honor after she was shot and killed at 15 years old – just one week after performing at President Obama’s 2nd inaugural parade in 2013. Orange is what hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others from harm. Orange expresses our collective hope as a nation — a hope for a future free from gun violence.   You can buy an Orange “Every Town for Gun Safety Tshirt or other accessories at:  Wear Orange Tee
Who should come to this event?

Everyone is welcome, not just students and teachers and their families. This is a family friendly event, and the more people who come together and show how strongly we feel about this issue, the better our voices will be heard.
