Welcome! JOIN or RENEW

Dear Neighbors, Friends & Fellow Democrats,

While we are disturbed by the number of Americans who decided to cast their votes for President-elect Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris this year, we remain encouraged by the enthusiasm and hard work performed by dedicated volunteers within our Malibu community and across the nation to help elect Democrats. The fight continues onward, and we are prepared to do our part to defend the inhabitants, institutions, and interests of the United States and our allies abroad.

This election cycle, over one hundred volunteers from Malibu hand-wrote over ten thousand postcards, called hundreds of thousands of voters, canvassed across neighboring battleground congressional districts and swing states to knock on many additional thousands of doors, and helped raise over one million dollars for Democratic candidates. Additionally, Malibu Democrats spent hundreds of hours speaking directly with voters and distributing voter registration forms and election information on Sundays at the Malibu Farmers Market.

Congratulations to Malibu’s U.S. Representative Brad Sherman (CA-32), California State Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (AD-42), our newly-elected U.S. Senator Adam Schiff, Congressmember-elect George Whitesides (CA-27), and all other victorious candidates who voters entrusted with the great responsibility of representing our shared values and accomplishing our common goals. We look forward to continuing to work with Sen. Schiff, Rep. Sherman, Asm. Irwin, and our other elected officials to address ongoing local issues such as improving PCH and public safety, strengthening fire prevention and response, and protecting our environment and open spaces.

Locally, while county election officials will continue to count votes until the end of the month, Bruce Silverstein, Steve Uhring, and Haylynn Conrad currently lead the field of Malibu City Council candidates. We thank each of the candidates who participated in our Malibu Democratic Club forum in October, congratulate the to-be-certified winners, and trust that they will each do their best to serve Malibu. We also congratulate the committee supporting our local school facilities bond, Measure MM, which appears to have passed.

We extend our gratitude to President Joe Biden, California’s own Vice President Kamala Harris, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and all of the Democratic candidates and grassroots volunteers across the country for their service and commitment to defending democracy. Faced against candidates promoting hate, division, and falsehoods, history will remember that Democrats stood on the side of justice, unity, and truth.

We especially thank our partners at Grassroots Democrats HQ and Westside Democratic HQ for all of the incredible work that they do, and for consistently supporting our volunteer efforts in Malibu.

If you are feeling afraid or vulnerable in the aftermath of this election for any reason, please know that we at the Malibu Democratic Club are here to foster community, support those at risk and in need, and provide information on other helpful resources and organizations.

We will continue to host monthly Board meetings and organize regular events throughout non-election years, and invite you to join the club or renew your annual membership to support our ongoing efforts to be of service while fighting to protect our democracy, our rights, and our freedoms. We will soon resume our monthly hikes and gatherings to more closely unite our Malibu Democratic community, and continue to send out periodic email updates highlighting upcoming events and other useful information.

We wish you joy over the final months of 2024 and during whichever holidays you choose to observe and celebrate.

In solidarity & with gratitude,

Gina Muscatel, Co-President, Malibu Democratic Club

Hap Henry, Co-President, Malibu Democratic Club

Marilyn Green, Volunteer Chair, Malibu Democratic Club

Where: 20249 Inland Ln. (Big Rock), Malibu, CA 90265

Join us for coffee/tea, a bit of breakfast, and a discussion of  the Mueller report

Lance Simmens has spent nearly four decades in senior level policy, political, and governmental positions at Federal, State, and local levels of government, has written over 350 articles for Huffington Post, is currently a regular contributor to the LA Progressive and is the author of two books, The Evolution of a Revolution: An Attack Upon Reason, Compromise, and the Constitution, and Fracktured. He is currently First Vice-President of the Malibu Democratic Club, Commissioner of Public Works for Malibu and has served as President of the Malibu Adamson House Foundation.

Ted Vaill is a former federal prosecutor, attended Colgate and University of Chicago Law School, practiced law for 50 years in LA, for 10 years was a delegate to CADEM, has written over 70 articles for LAProgressive.com, is a former President and now VP of Malibu Democratic Club, and a former Planning and Parks and Recreation Commissioner in Malibu.

The Mueller report is a seminal development in the Trump Presidency, an Administration characterized by lies, deceit, and corruption. What is at stake is the very survival of our democratic processes, including checks and balances, the rule of law, and separation of powers.

It is vital, as we approach the 2020 election, that we keep ourselves well informed, discuss the issues that confront the nation and the Party, and stand as a united opposition to ensure that Donald Trump is not re-elected.

CNN Reporter Jim Acosta: “A Dangerous Time To Tell the Truth in America” @ Writers Guild Theater
Jun 20 @ 8:00 pm

Jim Acosta

in conversation with

Comedy Central’s Larry Wilmore

discussing his book,

The Enemy of the People: A Dangerous Time to Tell the Truth in America

Jim Acosta is CNN’s chief White House correspondent, currently covering the Trump administration. He previously reported on the Obama administration from the White House and around the world. He regularly covers presidential press conferences, visits by heads of state, and issues impacting the executive branch of the federal government.

From CNN’s veteran Chief White House Correspondent Jim Acosta, an explosive, first-hand account of the dangers he faces reporting on the current White House while fighting on the front lines in President Trump’s war on truth.

In Mr. Trump’s campaign against what he calls “Fake News,” CNN Chief White House Correspondent, Jim Acosta, is public enemy number one. From the moment Mr. Trump announced his candidacy in 2015, he has attacked the media, calling journalists “the enemy of the people.”

Acosta presents a revealing examination of bureaucratic dysfunction, deception, and the unprecedented threat the rhetoric Mr. Trump is directing has on our democracy. When the leader of the free world incites hate and violence, Acosta doesn’t back down, and he urges his fellow citizens to do the same.

At CNN, Acosta offers a never-before-reported account of what it’s like to be the President’s least favorite correspondent. Acosta goes head-to-head with the White House, even after Trump supporters have threatened his life with words as well as physical violence.

From the hazy denials and accusations meant to discredit the Mueller investigation, to the president’s scurrilous tweets, Jim Acosta is in the eye of the storm while reporting live to millions of people across the world. After spending hundreds of hours with the revolving door of White House personnel, Acosta paints portraits of the personalities of Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Stephen Miller, Steve Bannon, Sean Spicer, Hope Hicks, Jared Kushner and more. Acosta is tenacious and unyielding in his public battle to preserve the First Amendment and #RealNews.
